Craft Your Artisan Adventure
Half Day
Spend a day visiting artisan craft shops to peruse the fine wares made by our local and regional artists. Not only is this a wonderfully relaxing way to spend your day, your purchases also serve as unique souvenirs to remind you of your Cumberland Valley experiences.
Start your trip with a cluster of artisan shops in walkable downtown Carlisle. The Artist Market of Pomfret Street and History on High-The Shop both feature local and regional crafts including jewelry, pottery and handmade cards. The Carlisle Arts Learning Center, Nancy Stamm's Galleria, The Garden Gallery and Fly Away Home Studios are all sales galleries featuring locally created artworks. End your time in Carlisle with a visit to Colucci & Company, where you can find funky jewelry, unique frames and pottery. If you're lucky you might even catch a jewelry making demonstration!
Full Day
After a busy morning, slow down your pace in scenic Boiling Springs. Enjoy lunch on the patio of Caffé 101 where you can overlook picturesque Children's Lake. Be sure to stop by Gerald W. Putt Studio to view this Boiling Springs native's award winning wildlife artwork. Next, you'll find a fine art studio, Village Artisans Gallery, in a renovated church. This gallery is nationally recognized as a treasury of American craftsmanship and artistry, and features works from over 200 artists. Be sure to check the event schedule so you can time your trip to see an Artist in Action.
Or, take a drive out into the back roads of Carlisle and visit Meadowbrooke Gourds. Featured on the Discovery Channel's Dirty Jobs, Meadowbrooke Gourds retail shop features hand-crafted gourds for all seasons and purposes. Stop by during an open house to get a behind-the-scenes peak of how the gourds are harvested, cleaned, prepped and painted.
Make it a Weekend
