Cave Hill Nature Center

Carlisle, PA 17013

details

This wooded and undeveloped nature preserve is located north of the Borough of Carlisle along the Conodoguinet Creek. It contains lightly-used trails and a wide variety of plants, including some rare species.

A steep incline leads to the creek where the water is deep and fishing is permitted. At creek level, when the water level is low, the mouth of a limestone cave can be seen. The Borough of Carlisle discourages cave exploration. Cave explorers and swimmers do so at their own risk.

Boaters may use the area as a take-out for kayaks or canoes. Please be aware that the trail from the creek to the road is rugged and steep—not an easy take-out for watercraft. Cave Hill is not a put-in point because it is just upstream from the Carlisle Raw Water Intake Dam. Do not attempt to navigate over the dam!
