Individuals, families, and groups are welcome to visit the Shippensburg History Center. Our exhibits feature artifacts and interpretation that help to bring Shippensburg and the surrounding area’s history to life from the 1700s to the 1900s. Our exhibits are interactive and fun for people of all ages. There is a scavenger hunt for the younger historians to participate in during their visit. Allow at least 1 to 1.5 hours to visit our museum. The first floor is handicap accessible, however, due to our 1750 historic treasure, there is no handicap access to the second floor. Handicap ramp is accessible from the rear entrance of the facility.

The Dr. Alexander Stewart Resource Room is self-served and contains many materials including family history, local history, and photographs that patrons can view for free. Reservations are not needed to use the resource room.

We offer a wide range of hands-on educational activities from the colonial era to the American Civil War that are interactive and fun for the entire family. These programs are an excellent way to experience and connect with history in a fun way. Programs can be given Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For more information on fees and programs, visit our website.

History comes to life in our living history areas located in the backyard of our facility. During these programs, we demonstrate small town historical trades, play historical games, and historical cooking. Living history helps to bring to life those tangible practices and skills to provide a better visitor experience. This is why the SHC is dedicated to bringing these skills to life in a small-town setting and encouraging a hands-on approach. We are Shippensburg’s only living history organization.
