CARLISLE, PA (March 18, 2013) - Cumberland Area Economic Development Corporation (CAEDC) financed the construction of a miniature golf course at Rich Valley Golf in Silver Spring Township, Cumberland County, PA through CAEDC's Tourism Infrastructure Loan Fund (TILF) and Cumberland Small Business Fund (CSBF). The total investment of the project is $250,000.

The course currently offers a 3-hole beginner's course, 18-hole championship course, driving range, pro shop, and Nolo's Bar & Restaurant. Open since 2003, the course is public with a limited number of memberships. Jeff Austin is 100% owner of Rich Valley Golf, Inc. Austin is adding the miniature golf course to the property to complement the 18-hole course, as well as the restaurant. "By adding the miniature golf course, I am making Rich Valley Golf a more family-oriented destination to where adults can golf and also bring their children to eat and for recreation," said Austin. "The majority of the golfers that visit Rich Valley Golf come from within 15 miles of the course, so the parents can easily bring their kids after their done playing." In addition to serving its existing customer base, Austin expects he will also attract a new group of customers to the course, which could include larger groups such as; birthday parties, graduation parties, and wedding parties. He mentioned that being able to offer people golf, miniature golf and dining will make the course more attractive to the family golfers and those looking for family recreation.

The economic impact of this renovation is approximately $500,000 in year one with construction and sales and approximately $250,000 annually. Rich Valley Golf is looking to hire two (2) part-time seasonal workers to staff the miniature golf course. Austin expects to have the miniature golf course open Spring 2013.

The Tourism Infrastructure Loan Fund and Cumberland Small Business Fund are CAEDC administered loan programs that offers low-cost financing to businesses located in Cumberland County. CAEDC looks to lend out these funds to businesses looking to expand, purchase equipment, real estate acquisitions, and working capital.
