Community Leaders Eye Newville as Potential Trail Town
CUMBERLAND VALLEY, PA (November 21, 2013) -
Cumberland Area Economic Development Corp. (CAEDC) has reached out to the
Newville Borough, Big Spring Economic Development Council, and other key
stakeholders to discuss the idea of Newville planning for future growth as a
trail town.
Plans
are currently underway to expand the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail to Carlisle
in the years to come, placing Newville at the center of the trail that runs to
Shippensburg. This creates a unique opportunity for Newville to plan now for
the future and offer amenities for the increase in visitors and residents that
will be using the rail trail.

we believe it is important to strategically plan for Newville's future as the
center of this valuable outdoor asset," said Jonathan Bowser, CAEDC CEO.
"CAEDC sees a value in assisting this community develop and locate the
assets that make trail towns successful including bike shops, bed and
breakfasts, restaurants and more."
Currently the Newville Borough Manager and other community leaders from the
Newville area are on board and have met with CAEDC to brainstorm and discuss
initial ideas. CAEDC's immediate plans include creating a Newville Task Force
and meeting in early 2014 to continue planning.
"The Mayor and members of Newville Borough Council are
extremely excited about partnering with CAEDC and the task force members as we
plan for the improvement of Newville's economic future," said Borough
Manager Fred Potzer. "Newville officials and business leaders eagerly look
forward to their first cooperative venture with Jonathan Bowser and the CAEDC
