CARLISLE, PA (May 19,2010) - A "World of Autos" is what you will find this weekend at the Carlisle Fairgrounds, for the 25th edition of the Carlisle Import & Kit Nationals.
Much like the international pavilions found at Disney's Epcot Center in Orlando, Florida - the Carlisle Import & Kit Nationals gives attendees the opportunity to venture into areas of the fairgrounds that represent a specific country. In the standard Carlisle Events fashion, this global experience will be all about the cars and the people. Vintage and high-performance vehicles from seven different countries will be on display, along with the owners who create their own individual atmospheres to celebrate the cars, trucks and SUVs that they cherish. This year's event will celebrate the vehicles and culture of Germany. Live German oom-pah brass music will be heard across the Carlisle Fairgrounds, while visitors awe at classic and high-performance Porsche, Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Opel and Volkswagen models.
In addition to the international auto festival, the world's largest Kit-Replica gathering can also be found on the fairgrounds this weekend. The kit and replica portion of the event will showcase hand assembled kit and reproduction cars, many based on the rarest and most collectible models in the world. This year's event special guest is Bruce Meyers, creator of the Dune Buggy. Meyers has a long history with dune buggies, one of the first mass-produced kit cars, dating back to the original water pumpers of Southern California. Meyers took it upon himself to re-design the crude, heavy buggies into the lightweight version that have become so popular in off-road racing and in beach towns across the world.
Highlights for this year's Carlisle Import & Kit Nationals also include kids activities, on Saturday; a special display of invitational vehicles - including a very rare collection of BMWs, from Ed and Janine Ullom of CVM Autopark; autocross racing; seminars covering topics for beginners to experts; a scenic cruise exploring covered bridges found in Perry County and a drive-in movie experience, on Saturday night.
