CARLISLE, PA (March 21, 2013) - There are not many automotive companies operating today that can tout a century of automotive excellence. General Motors is one brand that can say that and more! The GM lineage will be on full display at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds as part of the Carlisle GM Nationals, June 21-23. This event will once again bring together all cars under the GM umbrella for a one-of-a-kind celebration that will include special guests, special displays, historically significant cars, family fun and at least two Hall of Fame racers.
Droves of enthusiasts will flock to Carlisle to experience the vast showfield and spectacular displays. Within Building Y, patrons can experience the Turbo Buick 35th Anniversary. This feature highlights some of the best Turbo Regal, T-Type, Grand National, GNX or any other Turbo Buick cars from 1978-1987 and, most importantly, showcases the "six with kick." In addition to this 35th anniversary display, Dennis Kirban will be onsite. Kirban is a legendary Turbo Buick and Hurst memorabilia collector. His visit to Carlisle not only allows him to intermingle with Turbo Buick enthusiasts, but also allows him to present a pair of free seminars on Saturday of event weekend. Since 1987, Kirban has been a go-to source for Turbo Buick parts, advice and even the cars themselves. His appearance combined with the Turbo Buick display give even more automotive options to anyone at the GM Nationals.
In addition to the Turbo Buicks, there will be a High-Performance showroom, focusing on some of the rarest, fastest and most beautiful cars around. Building G, located outside of Gate 1 on the west side of the grounds, plays host to several HI-PO's, including a special nod towards the high-performance Buick models that hit the streets during the Muscle Car era. As cars that go fast go, the weekend will also include drag racing at nearby Quarter Aces Drag-O-Way, the return of Cacklefest with NHRA Hall of Fame racer Bruce Larson and a special visit from NASCAR Hall of Fame racer Bobby Allison. The racing takes place Friday, Cacklefest is Friday and Saturday and Allison will be onsite for a limited time Saturday only. All told, the GM weekend embraces fast cars and great American engineering.
Other aspects of the GM Nationals include a great display of Barn Finds, RC racing for the young enthusiasts, a burnout competition, beauty contest and participant judging. Pre-registration is open now and a 10% discount is available through May 20. Finally, event manager Tyler Staley is working to include test drives as part of the weekend. If successful in securing this feature into the weekend, it would be available for three days, giving anyone interested in doing so the chance to get behind the wheel of the latest and greatest products from GM. Test drives are free with admission to the event.
