He's garnered 21 top ten hits, earned nominations for three Academy Awards and five Golden Globes, received 18 Juno Awards, and American Music Award and five ASCAP Film and Television Music Awards. Adams is currently touring the world with his critically acclaimed "Bare Bones" acoustic show, interspersing these special acoustic performances with full band stadium concerts. Tickets to this performance are $59, $55, $50 and $45.
A fan favorite on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars," J.R. Martinez will be speaking at the Luhrs Center on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Shippensburg University Proteus Lecture Series. His lecture topic "Facing Adversity Head-on with Optimism & Resilience," will highlight the permanent change that Martinez faced following a vehicular fire which engulfed him as his Humvee hit a land-mine during his US Army deployment in Iraq. Martinez suffered smoke inhalation and severe burns to more than 40 percent of his body. He then spent 34 months in recovery and underwent 33 different surgeries including skin grafts and cosmetic surgery. While hospitalized, Martinez spoke to another burn victim, giving them strength and courage, which allowed him to see the impact that he could have on other patients. Since then, Martinez has become a highly sought-after motivational speaker, traveling the country to spread his message of resilience and optimism. Tickets are $20, and are free to Shippensburg University students with a current student ID. A VIP reception and dinner will take place starting at 5 p.m. and can be purchased for $75. The reception, dinner and lecture package is available for purchase by calling 717. 477.1738. Tickets to the lecture only are available by calling the Luhrs Center box office at 717. 477.SHOW or online at Luhrscenter.com.
Country music legend, Merle Haggard, will be appearing Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 8 p.m. Only a tiny group of country music immortals can step forward to share the spotlight when it comes to being credited with having forged the genre that is known today as ‘modern country music.' And one out of that select handful would be Merle Haggard. Haggard has written hundreds of songs, including classics such as "Sing Me Back Home," "Okie From Muskogee," "Silver Wings" and "Workin' Man Blues." His music has scored over 65 albums, seven having been certified gold; he's been nominated 43 times for CMA Awards, more than any other entertainer; and he's received eight Grammy Nominations and won Best Country Vocal Performance, Male in 1984. Haggard was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1994. Tickets to this performance are $57, $52, $47 and $42.
His name comes from the 19th Century Austrian composer who wrote "Hansel & Gretel," and his voice comes from heaven. Engelbert Humperdinck brings his popular, cross-over musical style to the Luhrs Center on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 8 p.m. Humperdinck has recorded everything from the most romantic ballads to the theme song from the Beavis and Butthead movie. His remarkable voice and extraordinary talent has endeared him to millions of fans around the globe, with younger generations also discovering what a magnificent musician the rest of the world has been celebrating for decades. With four Grammy nominations, a Golden Globe for "Entertainer of the Year," 63 Gold and 24 Platinum records, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Humperdinck has attained an elite stature with his core audience, but has also struck a new chord with a younger generation. Tickets are $63, $58, $54 and $48.
Kenny Rogers, the singer with the unique storytelling ability and soulful voice, returns to the Luhrs Center following his 2009 Christmas show appearance. This time around, Rogers will be performing his
traditional show, including all of his hits, on Friday, June 15, 2012 at 8 p.m. Rogers has sold more than 120 million records worldwide and recorded more than 65 albums during his storied 52 years in show business. His long list of timeless classics includes an impressive 24 Number One hits including "The Gambler," "Lady," "Lucille," "She Believes in Me," "Islands in the Stream," and "We've Got Tonight" among them. Rogers is one of very few artists who have enjoyed successful careers in a wide variety of genres such as
jazz, folk, rock, country, pop, and more recently - gospel. He is the Recording Industry Association of America's eighth best-selling male artist of all time with one Diamond album, 19 Platinum albums and 31 gold albums. Tickets to this performance are $75, $69, $64 and $55.
