CUMBERLAND VALLEY, PA (October 19, 2015) - Last fall, Cumberland Area Economic Development Corporation (CAEDC) was approached by a studio company representing the popular Syfy show, Ghost Hunters, to learn more about the Old Cumberland County Prison. In November, the cast and crew visited Carlisle and filmed at the location.
CAEDC has received notice that the episode will be included in season 10 of Ghost Hunters. The season started on August 26th 9/8c. Episode air dates are subject to change and currently the Carlisle episode is set to premiere on November 4, 2015. Viewers should reference www.syfy.com for a confirmed air date as it approaches.
CAEDC acted as the location host on behalf of the County and coordinated all efforts and communications between the film crew and the other participants included in the episode.
"We'd like to thank Cumberland County Commissioners Cross, Hertzler and Eichelberger, and the County staff who allowed the film crew to have access to the building," said CAEDC Communications Manager Kristen Rowe. "Without their support this would not have been possible."
CAEDC also relied heavily on the Cumberland County Historical Society for information on the history of the building and all the interesting things that had happened there. The historical society was also able to provide some historically-accurate clothing for a few reenactment shots.
"We are very excited for everyone to see the episode that highlights an interesting part of Carlisle's past and will showcase the town on a national scale," said Rowe.
The Old Cumberland County Prison, located in downtown Carlisle, operated as a prison from 1854-1984 and is now used for county offices. Philadelphian architect Edward Haviland designed the prison.
