HARRISBURG, P.A. (August 5, 2015) - The Pride of the Susquehanna riverboat, first launched in 1988, announces that they are on the verge of welcoming their one-millionth passenger this summer. A special prize pack, including a vacation and gift certificates, has been put together as the Riverboat Society's way of saying "thanks" to everyone who has taken a ride since her initial launch.
The riverboat was launched in spring of 1988 as a non-profit community vessel, offering daily cruises throughout its 27 years of operation. These cruises, launching between 3 and 7 times in a day, have become a tourism staple in the area over the last three decades.
"We are so proud to welcome our one-millionth visitor this year," exclaims Thomas A. Farr, the Riverboat Society's chairman. "There were people who said that she would never float, then there were people who said she wouldn't last a season. Our proud little riverboat has proven all of the doubters wrong, and we are so happy to continue to be a lasting attraction in the Harrisburg area."
The "Pride" offers a number of different cruises for locals and visitors to enjoy. Daily sight-seeing tours are among the most popular, but dinner cruises, wine and cheese samplings, family superhero events, and more add a unique flavor to the Harrisburg area.
The Riverboat Society has teamed up with several local businesses to promote the event and to create a prize package for the lucky one-millionth reservation. Wilsbach Distributors is donating a hotel trip to Harrah's in Atlantic City, and additional gift certificates for dinners, services, and merchandise have been donated by Home 231, the Sturges Speakeasy, the Stash Collective, River City Blues Club, and The Pride of the Susquehanna to sweeten the deal.
"We expect the one-millionth reservation to be made some time within the next two weeks," said Farr. "These gifts are just our way of saying to all of our customers ‘Thank you for keeping the paddles turning.'"
Reservations can be made online at www.HarrisburgRiverboat.com. All reservations will be counted toward the pending total, and the lucky winner will be announced soon after.
