CARLISLE, PA (April 6, 2012) Do you know the name of a Soldier you want to learn more about, but are not sure how to start research? Do you have a photograph of your grandfather or family member, but you do not have anything more than a name? Visit the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center (USAHEC) for the lecture and workshop, "Discovering the Campaign Experiences of Your Ancestors at USAHEC," presented by Brigadier General (Retired) Harold Nelson on April 21, 2012 at 1 PM. The lecture is for genealogists and family members who want to avoid long hours of random searching by refining their research skills to help them more efficiently learn what their ancestors may have done during the Civil War, World Wars I and II, and beyond.

The USAHEC is the U.S. Army's premier research institution, with archival collections spanning from before the French and Indian War to current operations in Afghanistan. BG (RET) Harold Nelson is the former Chief of the Center of Military History and is a world-recognized expert in military history. Over his years as a military historian, he has written numerous books and articles using the archives at USAHEC and will utilize specific materials from the archives to illustrate his techniques. The lecture will show the audience how to research in the USAHEC's collections and will draw upon his vast experience to reveal a treasure trove of tips and basic tactics to quickly learn about their family's history in the U.S. Army.

The lecture will begin a 1 p.m., but please come early and grab a bite to eat at the Café Cumberland and take a browse around the museum store. As always, the USAHEC's Civil War exhibits, the General of the Army Omar Bradley exhibit, and the Army Heritage Trail will be open. This event and parking are free to the public.
