This Saturday my husband and I headed to Carlisle for the afternoon/evening for something different to do. We ended up having a great time checking out some of Carlisle's new hotspots and old favorites. Here's the four places we visited!
1. Molly Pitcher Brewing Company - I've been hearing a lot about this very recently opened new brewery in Carlisle. Although they still have limited hours (Tues & Thurs 3-6pm and Sat 12-6pm), it is definitely worth checking out. They offer flights, which is the best way to try out new beer and discover your favorite. They also have a small snack menu and I would recommend the Keswick Creamery cheese plate.
2. Castlerigg Wine Shop - This is a Carlisle must-see and I'm so happy to see them doing well in town. Castlerigg is much more than a shop to purchase wine. You can do a tasting or purchase a glass or bottle and hang out in their cozy seating area. They also offer great appetizers ranging from baked brie to sausage and cheese meatballs. Their staff is excellent as well, they recommended Seven Mountains' Yellow Jacket (an apple wine) mixed with their Cranberry Wine....so good!
3. Cafe Bruges - After sampling at Molly Pitcher and Castlerigg, it was definitely time for some dinner. My husband, who loves beer, had never been to Cafe Bruges and I knew he would enjoy the unique Belgian beer selection. We started with an order of frites and they were so delicious we got another one. Then we ordered the Lamb Burger and the Bruges Burger, both were very good.
4. Helena's Chocolate Cafe & Creperie - We wrapped up our evening with dessert and coffee at Helena's. The cafe mocha and hot chocolate were both really tasty and rich. It was the most stocked I've ever seen their macaron selection, so I chose a few to take home. My husband picked a very decadent looking chocolate raspberry cake to enjoy later as well.
Market Cross Pub & Brewery and Alibis Eatery & Spirits. Where would you recommend for a fun Saturday?
