The last weekday of each month CVVB Staff goes on a familiarization or FAM tour, visiting our partners within the Cumberland Valley. Friday's FAM was focused primarily on Carlisle lodging and meeting space. We started the day at the Carlisle Ribbon Mill which has a fantastic upstairs meeting/convention/wedding space. The mill was in operation until 1987, and much of the original interior remains - think brick walls, giant fire doors (still to code) and hardwood floors with slight indentations where the machines sat.
Next, we stopped by Pheasant Field B&B for a short tour (they were busy setting up for an outdoor wedding). Did you know that the house once served as a stop on the Underground Railroad?

We weaved our way through Carlisle, learning fun facts along the way. The Valley Motel & Restaurant is working on a new outdoor patio, Western Village RV Park is working on a new arcade/game room, the Days Inn & Suites sells six packs from Alexander's Lounge, and the Carlisle Country Market is now open (formerly Village Craft).

We decided to take a short drive to Mt. Holly Springs to have lunch at the Holly Inn. While chatting with one of the owners we learned the building dates back to the 1800's, and that the history of the restaurant/motel is outlined in photographs around the dining room.

Other stops on Friday's FAM included Country Inn & Suites, Fairfield Inn & Suites, Super 8 Motel, Stardust Motel, Whistlestop Bookshop and Masseys.

Look for us soon, next month's FAM Tour will be in Boiling Springs (weather permitting).
