As we head into the holiday shopping season, we asked our Facebook fans to vote for the best place to shop in Cumberland Valley. With all the fantastic choices, it’s no surprise that there was a tie. The winners are Georgie Lou’s Retro Candy and Meadowbrooke Gourds.

Located on a 200-acre farm in Carlisle, Meadowbrooke Gourds is locally-owned and operated. The business crafts over 250 products and is the country’s largest gourd manufacturer, producing an impressive array of gourds in the shape of whimsical animals, bowls, luminaries, bird houses, and more. Customers who step inside their showroom are greeted by hundreds of decorative gourds for each season and holiday. Raw gourds and gourd seeds are also available.

Georgie Lou’s Retro Candy in historic downtown Carlisle is a second-time Best in the Valley winner, having won Best Candy in the Valley earlier this year. Georgie Lou’s offers 800+ kinds of candy, including nostalgic sweets and current-day favorites. They also make their own delicious fudge, barks, chocolate pretzels and other specialty treats. Customers will have a hard time choosing their favorite flavors among the 120+ varieties of unique glass-bottle sodas. Those who don’t want to indulge their sweet tooth will enjoy shopping among the retro gifts including metal signs, lunch boxes, toys and games, cards and notepads, purses, and so much more featuring pop culture icons such as Star Trek, Star Wars, and Wonder Woman.
