I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! Would you believe my 3 year old son can spell ice cream? I used to try to spell it to my husband to see if he wanted any before I mentioned it to Cole... but that doesn't work any more.  Maybe that's a sign that we eat too much of it? Nope! Just that Cole's really smart.  And there are a lot of really great places to go for a scoop in Cumberland Valley.  It's only fair that I visit all of them on a regular basis, right? Well... here are my top choices... in no particular order.

Massey's - Although technically frozen custard, instead of actual ice cream, this is my all time favorite choice for ice cream in Cumberland Valley.  Custard is smoother and creamier than ice cream and Massey's has both soft serve and hand dipped.  They are now open year round and they post the (sometimes up to a dozen) hand dipped flavors of the day every day via Facebook.   So far the fluffernutter is my favorite.  I also enjoy their milkshakes (peanut butter - vanilla ice cream with peanut butter sauce) and arctic mounts, which are soft serve custard with toppings mixed in (I choose Reese's peanut butter cups).

Leo's Homemade Ice Cream - TripAdvisor recently named this Carlisle favorite one of the 10 ten ice cream joints in the country! And if it were up to my husband or my mom we'd never go any where else.   They have flavors ranging from cinnamon Oreo to cornbread and everything in between.  My mom loves the Coffee Chocolate Chip, my dad's favorite is Almond Joy (one of the most popular flavors and almost always available) and believe it or not, my husband gets a plain old chocolate milkshake.  Also, as a special bonus, kids under 2 get a free (kid sized) cone.

Kristy's Whistle Stop - Now the problem with Kristy's.... is that their food is so good and their portions are so large and it's really really difficult to save room for dessert.  But if you do (and I recommend it), their ice cream choices are out of this world.  My favorite is the Hunka Hunka Burning Love (banana ice cream, marshmallow sauce, peanut butter, hot fudge, whipped cream, nuts & a cherry on top).  Do you see a theme here? Don't worry... if you're not a peanut butter lover (although you should be) they have plenty of other fun sundae (and milkshakes, hurricanes, cup and cone) choices for you to drool over.

The Twirly Top - Like Kristy's,  this is a great place to eat as well as enjoy a cool treat... but I don't have as much of a problem there because we tend to stop by after a picnic at Pine Grove Furnace State Park and I've already had my lunch.  I almost always choose a milkshake at Twirly Top... and right now they have fresh blueberry & raspberry milkshakes.  Delish!

Bamboo Frozen Yogurt - This is my son's favorite! They have flavor after flavor of frozen yogurt that you can serve yourself (I can, he can't - there have to be some limits!) and then... the toppings bar! Imagine a plethora of fruit, candy, baked goods, sweet treats, sauces and more.  You can put whatever you'd like in your bowl.  Sometimes I wonder why I bother with the yogurt because, for me, it's all about the toppings.  Then top it all off with whipped cream and plop it on the scale for prices. You actually pay by the weight! And just in case you've put more in your dish than you did in your kid's... Bamboo also has a kids play area to keep them entertained while you finish eating.   There are toys, tiny tables & chairs and a small TV that only plays kids shows.  I believe they also have story time there a couple of times a week (but of course I am out promoting the beautiful Cumberland Valley when Cole goes on adventures like that). Flavors rotate all the time so be sure to keep checking back in.  My favorite is Cherry Amaretto and believe it or not all I need on it is a little hot fudge.  It's that good.

Well... my mouth is watering! I hope yours is too.  Please feel free to try out my favorites... and post yours.  I'm always looking for new options.
