This Saturday I attended the opening of the Appalachian Trail Museum at Pine Grove Furnace State Park. This museum is the only museum dedicated to hiking in the U.S. and located only 2 miles away from the midway point of the entire Appalachian Trail! There were hundreds of people at the opening to see the museum and celebrate National Trails Day.

The museum itself is located in a beautiful stone grist mill and features changing exhibits, a hiker's lounge, a story-telling area and a thru-hiker photo gallery. Programs throughout the day consisted of speakers, hiking seminars and a pig roast sponsored by the Cumberland Valley Visitors Bureau for all the hard-working volunteers.

The museum will be open from noon to 4 p.m. every day through Labor Day and I definitely recommend making the trip! Let me know what you think!
