Memorial Day is an enjoyable, yet sobering holiday. Enjoyable as we mark the long weekend as the "official" beginning of summer. Let the fun begin for three months! Sobering because we take time to recognize those who lost their lives serving in the United States Armed Forces, the ultimate sacrifice.
On a picture perfect Sunday afternoon, today my husband and I attended the first annual Memorial Day ceremony at the Veterans' Memorial at West Pennsboro Township Park. As we listened to the speakers and watched fathers of two local fallen soldiers lay a wreath, I was reminded once again how amazing our great country is. We are blessed. It is important to gather with our neighbors and observe together these traditions.

Many events will be held next weekend (Memorial Day weekend) in boroughs and townships all over the Cumberland Valley. From Shippensburg to Camp Hill and everywhere in between there will be about a dozen ceremonies. Hope to see you at some of them!
