On one of my recent day trips I traveled Route 94. I am from a rural area and I am used to driving on back country roads, but I have to say, it's been awhile since I've been on one so fun! Route 94 starts in Cumberland County just south of Mount Holly Springs. Here it is windy and fun to drive for those of you with vehicles that have good handling. Eventually you cross into Adams County, where it really gets fun.
Shortly before crossing the line you go over a series of peaks and valleys. The speed limit is 50 mph and at that speed you get that little drop in your stomach every time you crest a hill and start down the other side. It's a little bit of a roller coaster effect, and at a few points I found myself wanting to throw my hands in the air and yell "woo." Actually, I'm just kidding about that. I was driving. But I think you get my point.
The best part about the peaks is the view. This stretch of road is dotted with farmland and one GIANT orchard (The Peters Orchard). Every peak awards you with a great view of the rolling farmland and acres upon acres of (I think) apple trees. The orchard also has a couple of ponds that are visible from a few of the peaks.
I'm going to make a point to go back and visit the orchard's retail store this spring when their produce is in full bloom, but I think the real showstopper will be this fall when the leaves start to change. Does anyone else have a favorite route they like to travel?
