This is hands-on learning from the start, as everyone has their own keyboard to use in class. Some of the topics covered include music theory, notation, melody & chords, hand position, and posture.
For students who complete book 1, they will have a basic understanding of the keyboard and basic music theory. Young students will be able to play simple melodies one hand at a time; older children will be able to play a simple melody with basic accompaniment.
Group classes for beginners offer several advantages over starting with private lessons. Besides the cost savings, the group environment provides more time to learn with an instructor. Playing along with others is also a benefit to learning, and it’s more fun!
The method book used for this class is the Bastian Piano Method. Each student will receive a copy at no additional cost.
This class is organized as a fundraiser to benefit the Keystone Musical Arts Center.
