The Bosler Memorial Library is excited to host its ninth annual free Comic Con on Saturday, October 26, from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. This event will feature local artists, writers, cosplayers, and vendors. Programs and activities will be available for a variety of age groups.
Bosler is thrilled to welcome award-winning, Philadelphia-based artist and educator Jamar Nicholas as a featured guest at our event. Jamar has dedicated his career to helping young people realize the power of visual narrative. He aims to promote anti-bullying, healing, and kindness in his work. Jamar's current project, partnering with Scholastic Graphix, "Leon the Extraordinary," is the first book in his series featuring Leon and his friends, Carlos and Clementine. His next book, "Leon: Worst Friends Forever," is set to be released in October 2024. During Bosler’s Comic Con, Jamar will be offering an interactive workshop for kids and families. Starting with art ‘warm-up’ drawing exercises, Jamar instructs kids to overcome creative ‘artist block’ by creating fun and funny idea mashups! This program will take place at 1:00 pm in Bosler’s meeting rooms. No registration is required to participate.
Bosler’s Comic Con attendees are also invited to participate in our Cosplay Contest. Three different categories are available for competition. There are kids (under 13), beginner, teen, and adult categories, and a category for advanced creators. First and second place in each category will win a Downtown Carlisle Association LoveBuck$ bundle. Bosler welcomes back Masterclass Award Winning Cosplayer Emma Kaye to host and judge our cosplay contest. Bosler’s Cosplay contest will take place at noon. Registration is required to compete.
Bosler is excited to welcome local artists and writers from WAM! Comics, part of the Charles Bruce Foundation. Featured artists and writers this year include Jason Seaux, Micah Davis-Culbertson, Jeremy Ruby, Pat LaMarche, Phil LaMarche, and Chad Bruce. WAM! Comics conduct a Comic Book Publishing Workshop during the event giving attendees a behind-the-scenes look at how a comic gets created and published. This workshop will take place at 2:30 pm and no registration is required.
In addition to these exciting programs, there will also be performances by the Central PA Jedi Sith Alliance, a Studio Ghibli keychain craft, a DIY hobbit door craft, and a special Fakemon Creations program where kids ages 7 to 12 will be able to create their own Pokémon!
