Overview
Locations

This year's symposium will offer learning workshops on Friday and panel discussions on Saturday that explore why family history matters to the historical field and the next steps you can take with your genealogy research. Once you've completed your ancestry search and mapped your family tree what are the next steps you can take with this information? Panelists will share their next step stories. From connecting to the places your ancestors lived, joining groups that promote the history of the nation, and writing books, Cumberland Pathways will explore the many stories of finding your roots and the wider impact of your family history research.

Friday Evening Reception

Keynote Speaker: James M. Beidler presents: "History and Genealogy: A Two-Headed Coin"

Columnist and author James M. Beidler explores how history and genealogy not only intersect but enhance each discipline. Hear how genealogists add context (and correct misunderstandings!) by learning the narrative of history—as well as how historians can effectively use the "cast of characters" that credibly researched genealogy generates.
