Cumberland Railway Company Bus Trip
Join us for a fascinating tour of the trolley lines operated by the Cumberland Railway Company. The first part of our journey will follow the tracks of the Holly Trolley from Carlisle to the terminus of the line at Mount Holly Park. At the park we'll take a short walking tour of the park and point out the locations of the roller coaster merry-go-round, Lithia Spring, dance pavilion, bowling alley and other features of the park. After we tour the park we'll stop for lunch at the Holly Inn, where Patricio Russ, the business mogul who built the line used to entertain friends. Lunch is on your own and not included in the bus fee. After lunch we'll return to Carlisle and follow the trolley line to Newville, pointing our several trolley related landmarks along the way. Our tour will stop at the Cumberland Valley Rails to Trails station near the site of the old Newville train station and we'll take a brief look at the site and where the trolleys stopped. On our way back to Carlisle we'll stop and look at the power substation that supplied the Newville trolley line - now the West Pennsboro Township office.
