Dineh Tah’ Navajo Dancers Program

In recognition of the 155th anniversary of the Lakota Tribal Treaty at Fort Laramie, Wyoming, in 1868, the Dineh Tah’ Navajo Dancers will present an educational program titled “William T. Sherman: War Maker/Peacemaker” by Shawn Price, Director of the Dineh Tah’ Navajo Dancers. They will also be demonstrating traditional Navajo dances as part of the program.
10:45 am to 12:00 pm: Shawn Price presents “William T. Sherman: War Maker/Peacemaker,” giving a brief overview of his early life, the Civil War with an emphasis on his post-civil war career, and his work with the Peace commission. The presentation will also discuss the profound importance of Tribal treaties and their legal power and precedent, especially regarding issues such as preservation, national parks, resources, and the environment. These treaties Sherman endorsed are indeed his lasting and living legacy.
12:30 pm to 1:30 pm: Program of Traditional Navajo dances, songs, and demonstrations. The program finishes with a social dance inviting audience participation.
