The Discovery Series programming at the Ned Smith Center is targeted at families and adults with a wide variety of events, from art workshops to citizen science programs to hands-on nature experiences.
Each fall, volunteers take to the woods to help band Saw-whet Owls, Pennsylvania’s smallest owl species. Over the past 27 years, tens of thousands of owls have been banded in the hopes of learning more about this elusive species. Attendees will learn about PA’s native owl species, have the opportunity to dissect an owl pellet, and learn more about the banding program. Our banding volunteer will have nets set up in the hopes of capturing a live saw-whet during the program!
*Note: this program does NOT include live birds
