F&M Trust Downtown Carlisle Christmas Parade
This year's theme for downtown Carlisle's third annual Christmas Parade is "The Nutcracker." All participants are encouraged to design their unit with holiday or accent lights. Prize money and prizes will be awarded at end of the parade.
The parade will kick-off Carlisle Wonderland Weekend's full schedule of holiday events. It will feature over 50 parade units of floats, youth groups, marchers, dancers, and marching bands, and corporate units. Emceeing the night is RED 102.3 hosts, Rick on Red, Cody Lee, and Phil the Thrill.
The parade will line up and step-off from the old IAC parking lot south of Carlisle Fire & Rescue on Carlisle Springs Road. From there, it will head onto Hanover Street and end at South Street. Immediately following the parade, Santa will make a u-turn and come back up to the square for the "community Christmas tree lighting (sponsored by UPMC Pinnacle). The tree lighting will also illuminate thousands of lights in Veterans Courtyard along with performers from the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet's production of George Balanchine's The Nutcracker ®.
The fun will start before the parade as costumed characters make appearances along the parade route. Santa's elves, Toy Superheroes, and Toy Princesses will interact with guests. There will be photo opportunities with the characters after the parade.
Following the tree lighting, Santa will lead the first community carol, "Jingle Bells." A local a capella group will then lead the crowd in additional songs. Lyrics to the songs will be available courtesy of DCA's Community Caroling songbook.
Following the first Christmas carol, Santa will be available for FREE photos, sponsored by Revelation Photography. Find Santa at Veteran's Courtyard seated on his throne next to his red Santa House.
The Downtown Carlisle Association and the Charles Bruce Foundation will offer delicious Hot Cocoa and Cider to warm your body at the frosty-blue colored "Alpine Haus" on the square, from 6 pm to 9 pm (or sooner if we run out, so come early and often). Also available at the Alpine Haus is the next in a series of DCA-designed Carlisle Commemorative Christmas Ornaments! This year's ornament features a celebration of CPYB's Marcia Dale Weary with The Nutcracker as depicted on a stage decoration that has symbolized the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet's production of George Balanchine's The Nutcracker ® for many years. The ornament is the result of extensive collaboration and research between the DCA, Create-a-Palooza, the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, and the Cumberland County Historical Society. We expect this year's Christmas ornament to sell out. The cost of the ornament is $15.
The Historical Society intends to display artifacts and memorability from the many productions of George Balanchine's The Nutcracker ® over the past 40 years in their windows at the G.B. Stuart History Workshop in downtown Carlisle.
See Carlisle's Wonderland Weekend page for more activities happening before and after the parade and around the region.
