Hospitals, Hygiene and Healthcare: A History of Medicine at the Carlisle Indian Industrial School, 1879-1918

Overview
Locations

The Carlisle Indian Industrial School (CIIS) is well known for its sports teams and assimilationist mission, but very little has been said about the history of medicine at the school. CIIS researcher, Frank Vitale IV, will discuss the general history of healthcare at Carlisle, from its hospital buildings and various medical technologies to its staff and patients, to highlight how these elements shaped both local history and Native American education.
