Students will learn how to make a "Candace" style shoe. This style is all hand-sewn, fully leather lines, with a hand-sewn leather sole. S

tudents start from the ground up (so to speak) with their shoe, and can complete an entire pair in this 4-day workshop. Handmade shoes can sell for $900 - and in this workshop, you not only leave with shoes, you get the fun of making it for yourself!

The Cordwainer Shop was founded in 1925 and students will use original tin patterns from the 1920's to make the Candace style shoe. Students choose from an array of leathers, and their shoes are made to fit their exact measurements. Learn about every part of the process; cutting the leather, lacing the uppers together; hand-lacing the soles to the uppers; placing them on shoe lasts; and baking before finishing. Cordwainer shoes are unique in the world of shoemaking. Made of non-synthetic materials, your handmade, one-of-a-kind shoes will only get better with time.

The "Candace" style of shoe is the same design worn by Hollywood legends such as Caesar Romero, Shirley Temple, Mary Pickford, and the original Henry Ford.

Upon enrolling, students will be sent a foot outline form along with explicit directions to be sent back to the instructor prior to class.
