Overview

“Since 1990, the husband and wife team of Tom and Laurie Reese have fused their diverse backgrounds into a unique style. Their eclectic style combines elements of classical, jazz, celtic, and folk music, creating Folk Fusion. A high level of musicianship combines with a strong creative urge, and MuZette takes flight into musical fantasy. This combination of an award-winning composer and a classically trained cellist engages audiences of all ages. Their repertoire includes standards in jazz, classical, celtic, and folk music in addition to originals.
Imagine JS Bach jamming out with Jethro Tull. Add Miles Davis and Turlough O’Carolan. All those sounds melting together creates Folk Fusion. Tom and Laurie, husband and wife duo, have developed a unique style that fuses elements of classical music, folk, and jazz. They blend classics by Bach, Ellington, and O’Carolan bridged by jazz-inspired improvisation.

Improvisation is key. Tom’s background is in jazz, and Laurie has a master’s degree in classical cello performance. Combining these different musical backgrounds has led to a wide circle of performance opportunities. Traditional Irish and celtic tunes proved to be the initial meeting ground between Tom’s jazz experience and Laurie’s classical training. Not wanting to abandon their individual musical roots, Tom and Laurie each pursued their own voices, leading them to create several more ensembles. Each ensemble is unique, performing standards as well as originals.”
