Nashville Unplugged at Whitaker Center
Acclaimed songwriter Aaron Benward hosts an acoustic evening with country music's most successful songwriters telling stories and performing the hit songs they have written. The show mimic’s the experience of the historic Bluebird Cafe in Nashville where songwriters perform their music in an intimate setting, sharing the story behind the song. A singer/songwriter in-the-round show, all of the songwriters that appear on Nashville Unplugged have written hits for country music’s hottest acts.
We had so much fun with this show last summer that we’re bringing it back this spring and welcoming two new (to us) songwriters to the stage with Aaron!
Travis Howard burst on to the scene on USA Network’s reality show Nashville Star in 2003. He was reluctant to participate, wary of being pigeonholed, but it paid off: One of his fellow contestants was future country superstar Miranda Lambert, who was just 19 at the time. The two forged a strong bond and a songwriting partnership that would produce the hits “Heart Like Mine,” “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” and “Famous in a Small Town.” He has continued writing songs, collaborating with big artists including Keith Urban, Dierks Bentley and Emily West; his work also appeared on the soundtrack of the 2016 thriller The Girl on the Train.
Heidi Newfield was the lead singer, rhythm guitarist and harmonica player for the group Trick Pony, alongside Keith Burns and Ira Dean from 1996 until 2006, when she left in pursuit of a solo career. Newfield began her solo career in 2008 with the hit single, "Johnny & June.” She’s collaborated with countless country artists and groups and is a regular guest at Nashville Unplugged in Vegas at Mandalay Bay.
