Overview

The Northern York County Historical and Preservation Society (NYCHAPS) will be offering a 2-day class in stone wall restoration on July 28th and 29th, 2018. Limited to six students, the class will focus on rebuilding a wall in a historic stone spring house for the Central Pennsylvania Conservancy (CPC). The spring house is located on the water cress bed farm on the LeTort stream in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Several years ago, a large tree fell on this 1820s spring house, crushing the timber frame roof system and some of one stone wall. The CPC owns the property and would like to repair the structure. This is an opportunity to learn how to lay stone in a traditional way and rebuild a small piece of history. The class will be taught by Sam McKinney, Director of Restoration for NYCHAPS and Dill’s Tavern in Dillsburg, PA. Sam has been involved with stone restoration for 35 years.
