The J. Sherwood McGinnis, Jr. War, Peace, and Justice Project, in collaboration with the Cumberland County Historical Society and The Arts & The Military’s ART-ifacts Collection, cordially invites you to visit the Project Welcome Center and exhibit: War Amongst the People / From Swords to Plowshares.

The exhibit is organized in two parts. The War Amongst the People display includes a timeline of American wars and interventions at home and abroad and a section titled From the French and Indian War to the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Both demonstrate how conflict has been a part of American life since the early settlement of North America. The other half of the exhibit, From Swords to Plowshares, presents Veteran artwork highlighting their experiences of war, most recently involving the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Their images on paper handmade from military uniforms, military hospital scrubs, and refugee clothing explore themes of service, sacrifice, and the costs of war. In addition, the exhibit presents artwork in response to the World War II-era Jewish Holocaust. The 49 objects are from The Arts & The Military’s ART-ifacts Collection.

The exhibit is open from August 31-November 10 and coincides with the operating hours of the Cumberland County Historical Society: Tuesday-Saturday, 10:00 AM-4:00 PM

We hope to see you at this profound and powerful exhibit.
