West Shore Symphony Orchestra: "Exuberance"
Energy & excitement... that's what to expect at the final concert of the season for the West Shore Symphony Orchestra.
Youth, spectacle, folk legend, carnival, and a world premiere will all be part of the WSSO 2019-20 Grand Finale.
We'll open with Roman Carnival Overture by Hector Berlioz and conclude with selected movements from Igor Stravinsky's Firebird Suite. Harrisburg's Sankofa African American Theatre Company joins forces with the WSSO to present an interpretive dramatization of Firebird.
(This collaboration is sponsored, in part, by a Community Partnership Grant from Pennsylvania Council on the Arts)
What happens in between is to be discovered! We've commissioned composer Erin Graham to write a piece- she knows the theme is "Exuberance"- let's see what she writes! (This commission is sponsored, in part, by a grant from WPA.)
Our Concerto Competition winner will also be featured, this year a string player.
What to listen for: significant solo played by English horn in Berlioz, somber but uplifting French horn solo at the end of the Stravinsky. Lots of melodies to sing after the concert ends!
The pre-concert lecture begins at 2:15 pm. The concert starts at 3:00 pm.
