The Shippensburg Historical Society is dedicated to preserving the town's history and heritage and seeks to generate interest in Shippensburg's past by providing historical information to the public. The museum contains a library of local books, photographs, maps, clothing, artifacts and more. Permanent exhibits include Central PA Indian arrowheads and tools.

The Stewart House, headquarters of the Shippensburg Historical Society, is a late 18th-century limestone and brick structure and one of Shippensburg's oldest homes.

Groups:  If your group favors local history, enjoy an educational museum tour of Shippensburg, PA and its surrounding area. Free admission.

  • Hours: By reservation only Tues-Sat 10am-3pm
  • Notes: The Shippensburg Historical Society will operate by reservations only until further notice. Reservations can be made for Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Appointments can be made by calling (717) 532-6727 or by emailing us at John.Miller@shippensburghistory.org. The building will limit the number of patrons inside to no more than five people at one time. We are asking patrons to practice social distancing while in the research library. Face masks are required for entry. As our part to protect our visitors, all surfaces, archives, and workstations will be sanitized per CDC guidelines in between visits.
