SHIPPENSBURG, PA (April 22, 2015) - The Shippensburg Area Chamber of Commerce presents the first annual BLOOM FESTIVAL, Saturday, May 2, 2015 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in designated areas of downtown Shippensburg, PA. This event is free and open to the public; certain vendors may charge a nominal fee for activities. Event will be held rain or shine. Please note, the children's area will close at 2 p.m.
The streets of Shippensburg will come alive with color, scents, music, and activities that signify the arrival of one of the most breath-taking seasons of the year... springtime! The centerpiece for this first-year celebration of the beauty and splendor of spring will be the many shapes, colors and fragrances of one of nature's most alluring harbingers of springtime. Flowers will bloom in all of their magnificent springtime glory in this family-friendly celebration which will stimulate all of your senses.
Scott Brown, Executive Director of the Shippensburg Area Chamber of Commerce painted a picture of
this year's event, "We have planned an extraordinary celebration that will appeal to all members of the family. We've elevated something as exquisitely beautiful as a flower, which inherently signifies the lush arrival of the new season, and built an entire event around it! And I don't know about you, but after the brutally harsh winter that we've all experienced, who isn't ready to get outside and enjoy the warm weather and spend some time with your family outdoors instead of cooped up indoors?"
Conceived by the Special Events Committee of the Shippensburg Area Chamber of Commerce, this first-time celebration includes children's activities, music, craft & food vendors, local produce & floral sales, and much more! Vendors will offer a variety of sumptuous sandwiches including pulled pork, pit beef, Italian sausage, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, sloppy joes, crab cakes, and chicken cheese steaks; as well as ribbon fries and pretzel braids.
Although no streets are being closed for the Festival, areas of the downtown will be reserved for this event. Food, crafts and retail vendors will be located in the Shippensburg Borough parking lot, with access from either King Street or McCreary Avenue. Children's activities will be available along McCreary Avenue, which runs parallel to the Shippensburg Chamber building, and leads visitors to King Street. King Street will be staffed by fire police for ease in crossing to the new pedestrian walkway between the Shippensburg Post Office and the Shippensburg Historical Society, also leading to free parking available in front of the Firefighters Activity Center. Free informational maps will be available at the Festival.
