CARLISLE, PA (September 2, 2010) - The US Army Heritage and Education Center (USAHEC) will be hosting its three-day fall event "The Market at Washingtonburg" Friday, September 10th through Sunday, September 12th on the Army Heritage Trail.
The event will consist of a series of programs and demonstrations celebrating the early history of Carlisle Barracks by emulating the conditions of the 18th-century military post and the town that grew up around it.
Visitors will be able to witness and engage with an extensive array of living history interpreters and exhibits from French and Indian War and Revolutionary War military units as they portray the inhabitants of the post called Washingtonburg.
Friday, September 10th will feature special educational tours of the historical camp for local school and youth organizations. These tours will enable children to gain a greater understanding of the military and the history surrounding Carlisle Barracks. Saturday and Sunday will consist of 18th-century field and Revolutionary War tactics demonstrations as well as special presentations and lectures on the crafts that supported the Army and the people of Carlisle
The event is free and open to the public. There is ample parking on site and handicapped and auxiliary parking if needed. While here, you can indulge in a variety of foods provided by numerous vendors, choose to attend a lecture or even rummage through the many books that will be available for purchase at the book sale in the new Visitor and Education Center building which will also be open for touring.
