Discover the historic buildings of the second-oldest Army post in the United States. The long history of the Carlisle Barracks includes a powder magazine built by Hessian prisoners during the Revolutionary War in 1777; being set on fire by Confederates during the Civil War on July 1, 1863; serving as the location of the Carlisle Indian School from 1879-1918; serving as an Army Medical Field Service School from 1920-1946; and since 1951, serving as the home of the Army War College.
