Carlisle’s Ice Art Fest, January 31 - February 2, 2025

Cumberland Valley is always an excellent winter destination, but Carlisle’s annual Ice Art Fest is not to be missed! We’ve put together an itinerary to help you make the most of the festival while enjoying other winter activities and delights that Carlisle has to offer.

LODGING

Carlisle HouseCarlisle has many lodging options, from charming B&Bs to well-known hotel brands for every budget. Carlisle House B&B is located downtown in the Historic District, perfect for easy walking access to the Ice Fest and other winter adventures. Comfort Suites Downtown Carlisle will also put you in the thick of the action. If you’d rather get away from the crowds, Fallen Tree Farm B&B offers rustic tranquility on a horse farm dating back to the 1700s. With the festival’s popularity, rooms may fill up fast, so make your reservations early.

FRIDAY EVENING

Ice Art FestIce Art Fest kicks off at 5 p.m. at Veterans Courtyard on the Square with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the unveiling of the UPMC Ice Throne. Be sure to get at least one photo sitting on the throne during your stay!

After a dinner at 1794 The Whiskey Rebellion, enjoy a drink or two at their Ice Bar. Be sure to dress warmly, as the entire bar is made of ice! 

SATURDAY MORNING

Helena'sStart your day with a delicious breakfast at one of Carlisle’s many eateries. Enjoy something sweet or savory at Helena’s Chocolate Cafe and Creperie, and grab a hot chocolate or coffee to go. Or visit Fay’s Country Kitchen for tasty home-style cooking at affordable prices (cash only).

SATURDAY AFTERNOON

Carlisle Ice Art FestWander through charming downtown Carlisle and browse over 100 ice sculptures. Be sure to catch one of two live sculpture carvings in front of the Old Courthouse to see how these masterpieces come to life. 

When you need a break from the cold, step into local shops and businesses for special activities, live music, extended hours, and plenty of excellent merchandise. Don’t forget to stop by Marjorie’s Gems and Jewelry and purchase a ticket for a chance to win a diamond ring in their annual Diamond Dig.

SATURDAY EVENING

Couple toasting beer at Desperate TimesCelebrate a fun day with food and a beverage at Desperate Times Brewery, which offers adventurous beers and a German-inspired menu. Enjoy a pub-style menu and atmosphere at the Gingerbread Man. Or savor Thai, Japanese, or Chinese cuisine at Chen’s Asian Restaurant.

SUNDAY MORNING

Hook & FlaskStop by Hook & Flask Still Works on Hungry Run Distillery for a filling brunch and adult beverages. Or start your day at Denim’s Coffee with a specialty coffee, smoothie, or breakfast sandwich.

SUNDAY AFTERNOON

Carlisle's Ice Art FestivalTake a horse-drawn carriage ride around Carlisle and see the winter magic from a different perspective! These rides fill up fast, so it’s best to reserve your time in advance.

Before you head out of town, stop by the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center to experience immersive exhibits that tell the story of the U.S. Army one soldier at a time.

MAKE A RETURN VISIT

In addition to Ice Art Fest, Carlisle is also known for its epic car shows, held from April through October, as well as its rich history and the nearby Appalachian Trail.
