There's a small spot along the Susquehanna River in Cumberland Valley that combines the best of dining, outdoor activities, and family fun. Head to Wormleysburg and City Island for a day of fun-filled adventure and scenic views.

Before crossing the Market Street Bridge to City Island, you will find two restaurants with indoor and outdoor seating, all overlooking the Susquehanna River. Dukes Riverside Bar and Grill and Dockside Willies each have their own charm and unique menu options. Dukes has long been known as one of the finest outdoor dining restaurants in Central Pennsylvania. The atmosphere is enjoyable year-round and the variety of food and drink options should please everyone. Dockside Willies also offers a great outdoor atmosphere for casual family-friendly dining, especially in the summer months. Dockside's menu covers a wide array of options and specializes in their brick-oven pizza. Enjoy great happy hour deals daily.

While you overlook the sparkling water of the Susquehanna River, you'll probably catch a glimpse of the Pride of the Susquehanna. The large red and white paddle-wheel riverboat is available seasonally for public and private cruises. During the summer (May through Labor Day weekend), 45-minutes sightseeing tours begin at noon, 1:30 pm, and 3:00 pm on weekdays and noon, 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm, and 3:00 pm on weekends. The cruises are scheduled for weekends only during the fall (after Labor Day through the end of October) at noon, 1:30 pm, and 3:00 pm. TIP: Online reservations are encouraged.

The Pride of the Susquehanna also offers special themed nights throughout the summer, including live music cruises and family-themed events. The Pride can also be rented for private parties, weddings, meetings, and anniversaries.

Harrisburg Senators City IslandCity Island

Located in the Susquehanna River between Harrisburg and Wormleysburg, 63-acre City Island offers all of the summertime fun you can handle and provides a scenic backdrop of the Cumberland Valley on one side and the Harrisburg skyline on the other. In addition to being the launch site for the Pride of the Susquehanna, visitors can catch a baseball game at FNB Field, home of the Harrisburg Senators, the Double-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals. The Senators offer great family activities and promotions, including post-game fireworks. Be sure to visit the lower-level Kids' Zone, which features a large collection of inflatables and games.

Before or after the game, enjoy cool, refreshing breezes as you explore City Island's many playful activities. You'll find Water Golf, a picturesque 18-hole mini-golf course right beside the Susquehanna River; the City Island miniature railroad and carousel; the Harbortown Playground, batting cages, and a variety of food vendors. 

Harrisburg Beach Club offers a delightful and scenic location to enjoy a drink. Unwind with spirits, cocktails, or Pennsylvania beer and wine. Local musicians perform during the weekend.

The Susquehanna River boasts many outdoor recreation opportunities including boating, jet-skiing, and walking trails. Enjoy a day on the water by following the Susquehanna River Trail. If you'd don't have your own equipment, you can rent a canoe, kayak, or SUP at Susquehanna Outfitters, located in Wormleysburg. Guided boating trips can also be scheduled ahead of time. 

The river is also an ideal place to spot birds and other wildlife. Follow the Susquehanna River Birding and Wildlife Trail to find hotspots to view a variety of wildlife and native birds. The river also offers a great backdrop for a leisurely walk. Park at City Island and stroll across the walking bridge and down Front Street in Harrisburg for beautiful views.

Events

A number of popular events are held throughout the year at City Island and along Riverfront Park in downtown Harrisburg including the Arts Fest during Memorial Day weekend and Kipona Festival during Labor Day weekend.
