Celebrating it's 150th anniversary in 2024, CCHS will host three exhibit openings in April: 150 Years of CCHS, 1870s Carlisle, and War Comes to Cumberland County by the War, Peace and Justice Initiative.

In June, CCHS will host an Evening with Jeff Shaara at the West Shore Country Club, offering an experience with the historical fiction author. Two other special anniversary events will be held in August -- the 150th Anniversary Block Party and the Two-Mile House Tea Party. Visit the CCHS website for more information about these events.

Visit the Cumberland County Historical Society (CCHS), a premier history and education center, dedicated to collecting, preserving and interpreting the county’s history. The Society maintains a library, museum, photo archives, education center, museum shop and the Two Mile House on Walnut Bottom Road. CCHS offers educational programs to schools, walking tours, family oriented programs, workshops, book signings, outreach lectures,  bus trips, and an annual Celtic festival on Saturday of the Labor Day weekend. The award-winning museum features 16 galleries with stories of local history spanning  250 years. Noteworthy are the Carlisle Indian Industrial School, folk art, and decorative arts galleries.

The library contains historic county records, books, tax lists, genealogy materials, census records and manuscripts. Over 500,000 photos add an important visual element to the collections.

Located adjacent to the Historical Society, take a few minutes out of your busy day to relax in the Vale-Himes pocket park with walkways, gardens, and benches. The park will also host historical society events and can be rented for private events.

The G.B. Stuart History Workshop is an interactive learning experience for children ages 3-13 and includes free workstation crafts, a storytelling nook, the G.B. Stuart History Lab, and our live fish exhibit featuring real critters from the Conodoguinet and Yellow Breeches creeks

The History on High Shop, 33 West High Street is owned and operated by the Cumberland County Historical Society offers books on local history, unique gifts, art and crafts made by local artists and crafts people, postcards and souvenirs. The Cumberland Valley Visitors Center is located in the rear of the shop.

Civil War History: A Civil War Trails Marker is located inside of the side access gate of the Historical Society; street address of 37 W High St, Carlisle. The marker commemorates the Prelude to Gettysburg.
