Celebrating ten years in 2024, the greatest gift continues to provide unique gifts and products at its store in the heart of downtown Carlisle. But perhaps even more importantly, the shop's founder and owner, Kristen Tuckey, sees the greatest gift as a place that sparks joy and builds community.
Can you share a bit about your business and how it reflects the unique character of Cumberland Valley?
The Cumberland Valley is diverse, with wonderful places to see and fun things to do. The greatest gift provides a space where an eclectic mix of unique gifts and beautiful apparel is offered to spark joy in others. If you look for them—both in the Cumberland Valley and specifically at the greatest gift—you will find gifts and blessings and opportunities to spend quality time with those who matter most all around.
What inspired you to start your business, and how has the community influenced your journey?
I’ve always dreamed of having my own shop. I love when someone finds a piece that makes them feel beautiful or a gift for others, and it’s just the perfect thing, and there is real, tangible joy that comes from finding something that you or a loved one will enjoy. The community has been so kind and supportive of the greatest gift. Downtown, urban retail isn’t easy with everything so accessible at your fingertips. However, the community has continued to grace us with their support by shopping here and visiting and sharing their stories with us along the way. Even during COVID, we were able to pack (on my dining room table) and ship Sunshine boxes that helped bring a little hope into a dark time. The people of the Cumberland Valley have been beyond amazing.
What makes your products/services special?
We think our mission and vision make us uniquely different. And our products reflect our mission and vision.
Mission: To provide unique gifts and beautiful things to the local community through offering products that are unique, affordable and great quality. We will offer relational, purposeful customer service in all of our interactions.
Vision: To cultivate the spirit of sharing through the giving of gifts, building relationships, and expressing gratitude for one another.
What does supporting local businesses mean to you?
Keep showing up. Your smiles, your stories, your energy keep us going. So even if you don’t buy anything (although we hope you always find something amazing to take home with you), just stop in and see us and keep bringing that creative, joyous, downtown energy. We are grateful every single time you come by the shop. Local business means knowing people’s names and stories. We love hearing about your kids, your vacations, your good and your tough. We love supporting our regulars and helping them find beautiful pieces that make them feel good about themselves.
What is one thing you would like visitors and residents to know about your business or Cumberland Valley that they might not already know?
We spend tremendous amounts of time seeking out new artists, designers, and products with the intention that you’ll see something new each time you visit. And that can be across product lines including clothing, healthy snacks, home décor, jewelry, and much much more.
