Christmas Shows in Cumberland Valley

The 2020 holiday season in the Cumberland Valley looks different than in previous years. Our performing arts venues are closed due to COVID-19 restrictions and the wonderful performances that do so much to enhance the joy of the holiday season will not happen this year. However, there are still options for some virtual performances that you can enjoy with loved ones in the comfort of your home.

In 2021, we hope you'll plan a return visit to the Cumberland Valley during the holiday season to enjoy the magic of Christmas as it comes alive, and to the stage, during the winter months. Grab the kids, friends and family and head out for a night of seasonal fun and witness the talent the Valley offers around the holidays.

H. Ric Lurhs Performing Arts Center

Past Christmas performances at the state-of-the-art H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center at Shippensburg University have included Swan Lake and a Mannheim Steamroller Christmas. Look for information about the 2021 season to be announced at a later date.

The Playhouse at Allenberry

Each year, The Playhouse at Allenberry stages a family-friendly and heartwarming performance that is sure to get guests into the holiday spirit. Previous years have include Miracle on 34th Street and Elf the Musical. In 2020, Keystone Theatrics hosts Virtual Sunday Under the Stars cabaret, featuring some of your favorite Keystone Theatrics performers singing songs from their favorite roles! Visit their YouTube channel to see previous Sunday Under the Stars performances from earlier this year or tune into new ones from 6:30 to 8:00 PM on Sunday, November 15 (Miscast), Sunday, November 29 (On Broadway), and December 20 (Holiday Duet Roulette).

Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet

We will miss the annual Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet's performance of George Balanchine's The Nutcracker. Each year's presentation of this beloved masterpiece promised to delight the entire family with a captivating production featuring dazzling costumes, brilliant dancers, and magical music that will have your heart bursting with holiday cheer. The dancers are this world-renowned ballet school continue socially-distanced in-person and virtual classes and look forward to presenting exciting productions in 2021.

Carlisle Theatre

During the holiday months, the retro Carlisle Theatre hosts special movies and performances to help you get into the holiday spirit including the popular tradition of presenting Irving Berlin's White Christmas. This year, Players on High will It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play on December 17, 18, 19, and 20. Visit Carlisle Theatre for more information.

Messiah University

Messiah University has several holiday concerts featuring both new and familiar songs of the season, including an annual presentation of "A Candlelight Christmas" by the Susquehanna Chorale. In 2020, the Susquehanna Chorale is hosting a free virtual performance of "A Candlelight Christmas". The concert will feature two new pieces performed virtually by the choir members: Dan Forrest’s arrangement of “The First Noel,” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” by John Rutter. Also featuring selections from past Christmas concerts, a singalong carol for viewers, and the traditional finale of Malcolm Sargent’s exquisite setting of “Silent Night.” Visit the Susquehanna Chorale on or after December 19 to view the concert.

Messiah University is also hosting a virtual Blue Christmas dance performance on November 19, 2020.

Little Theatre of Mechanicsburg

Little Theatre of Mechanicsburg presents a Christmas show each season. While, they are closed in 2020, they look forward to providing a quality local theatre in 2021.
