We’re now accepting nominations for our Annual Awards, honoring individuals and organizations that go above and beyond to advance progress, collaboration, and opportunity in Cumberland County. This small town, nestled in the gap of the south mountains of Cumberland Valley by Mountain Creek, has a long history. Settled after the French & Indian War, inhabitants engaged in agriculture and various small-scale industries including lumbering and iron production, and later, paper-making. The borough was established in 1873.
In 1901, a recreational park opened along Mountain Creek in Mt. Holly Springs where local residents could boat on a 30-acre lake, picnic, hike, and play baseball. There was also a dance hall, bowling alley, and roller coaster. The park grew in popularity through the early 1900s but eventually closed in 1930 and no visible remnants remain.
Today, the town offers a mixture of outdoor recreation, dining, history, and shopping.
