Thornwald Mansion was built in 1909 by Lewis Sadler as his private residence. It once sat upon 32 acres of heavily wooded land. It currently sits on 2 acres in what is now Thornwald Park. The three-story building, containing over 20,000 square feet of space, suffered years of neglect and a fire in 2007 caused extensive damage. The building was purchased by the current owner in 2010 and has undergone extensive renovation -- including a new roof, new electric wiring and insulation, new drywall, new flooring, new windows and skylights, restoration of wood shelving, crown molding and panels, and outside painting. There are currently four rooms on the first floor and three suites on the second floor available for reservations. While the building and grounds are still a work in progress, this is a wonderful opportunity to experience history and splendor at the same time. The rooms each come with private luxury bathrooms. Each is appointed with queen-sized beds, luxury robes and linens, antiques, and high-end decor. A full breakfast and afternoon refreshments are served daily. Spend the night or a weekend and learn about the history of the Mansion and the conservation efforts taking place.
