Cumberland County Historical Society, Carlisle

Founded in 1874, the Cumberland County Historical Society celebrates 150 years of collecting, preserving, interpreting, and promoting the rich history of Cumberland County. Special anniversary events include a Kick-Off Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, April 21, an Evening with Jeff Shaara on June 20, a family-friendly 150th Anniversary Block Party on August 10, and an elegant Tea Party at Two Mile House on August 18. If you can’t attend the Kick-Off celebration, stop by during business hours to view their exhibits: “150 Years of CCHS” and “Echoes of the 1870s: Cumberland County Unveiled.”

Carlisle Theatre, Carlisle

Thanks to the continued generosity and support of community members and downtown neighbors, the historic Carlisle Theatre marks its 85th anniversary in 2024. Opening in May 1939 and originally known as The Comerford, it was the first centrally air-conditioned building in Carlisle. After closing in 1986, the theatre was restored to its 1930’s Art Deco brilliance and re-opened in 1993. With a strong lineup of concerts, films, theatrical productions, and family-friendly programs, Carlisle Theatre is a hub of a thriving downtown community.

The Playhouse at Allenberry, Boiling Springs

The Playhouse at Allenberry has delivered memorable theatrical performances for 75 years. Built in 1949 by former owner Charles A.B. Heinze and renovated in 2017 by the current owners, the Playhouse has hosted more than 600 productions. Thousands of actors (including Shirley Jones and a young John Travolta), dancers, musicians, directors, and more have presented an unrivaled body of theatrical work for a wide range of audiences. Thanks to a partnership with Keystone Theatrics, a non-profit theatre production company, the legacy of entertainment at the Playhouse continues to provide Cumberland Valley with extraordinary productions that create timeless memories.

Carlisle Events, Carlisle

Celebrate automotive history as Carlisle Events marks its 50th anniversary in 2024. Over the past five decades, Carlisle Events has evolved into the premier destination for automotive enthusiasts, hosting a diverse array of events, from classic car shows and auctions to swap meets and specialty showcases, at the Carlisle Fairgrounds.  Carlisle Events' 50th-anniversary festivities promise an unforgettable experience, blending heritage, passion, and the shared love for all things automotive.

The Kitchen Shoppe, Carlisle

Family-owned and operated since 1974, the Kitchen Shoppe started in a small building adjacent to its current location, selling kitchen gadgets and appliances. The Cooking School was born from the need to instruct customers on how to use the items they were buying. This superstore now also carries over 20,000 items, including an extensive selection of gourmet food, the highest quality cookware, small appliances, and everything in between. The Cooking School hosts a wide variety of year-round demonstrations or hands-on cooking classes where guests can discover new cuisines and learn new skills. A special 50th-anniversary celebration is scheduled for April 27.

The Gingerbread Man, Carlisle

Opening on May 6, 1974, the Gingerbread Man is an iconic Carlisle restaurant and bar that has been serving the community for 50 years with delicious food, refreshing drinks, and good times.

Mountz Jewelers, Camp Hill and Carlisle

Friendly and knowledgeable team members offer an extraordinary jewelry shopping experience at modern showrooms in Carlisle and Camp Hill. The current owners of Mountz, a brother and sister team, celebrate its 45th anniversary in 2024 while carrying on a legacy established by their great-great-grandmother, including the traditional handmade bow that adorns each purchase. Their passion for fine jewelry has been passed down through five generations, and their commitment to "building lasting connections through life's greatest celebrations" has resulted in long-lasting success.

Market Cross Pub & Brewery, Carlisle

Market Cross Pub & Brewery celebrates its 30th anniversary with a month-long celebration in April. Kick off the festivities on April 1 at 5 pm with a toast and cake to recognize the downtown Carlisle establishment. Check their social media channels for a beer talk on April 6, a week of daily giveaways (April 1-7), a grand prize drawing (April 8), pint night (April 25), and more.

Jigsy’s Brewpub, Enola

Marking 25 years in 2024, Jigsy’s Brewpub is renowned for its award-winning pizza and wings. Their Old Forge-style pizza highlights a delicious menu filled with appetizers, salads, subs, strombolis, wings, soups, and more, plus craft beer and cocktails. Old Forge-style pizza is a unique rectangular style of pizza served by the tray and divided into cuts, not slices. The crust is medium-thick and crispy on the bottom.
